P.W. Gillibrand #20 Silver Sand is a 20 mesh (20 grit) silica sand milled in Simi Valley, CA and stocked at our branches in California, Utah, and Colorado. Sold by the 50 lb bag, 56 bags per pallet. Ship it or pick it up at the store. The 50 lb bag replaces our 100 lb bag. Same silica sand, same specifications, half the lift.

What is #20 sand?

#20 sand is silica sand graded around a US #20 sieve. Gillibrand's #20 has an effective size of 0.40 to 0.55 mm, with most of the material retained on the #30 and #40 screens. It sits between #16 and #30: coarse enough for texture and blasting, uniform enough for grout and filtration.

Is 20 mesh sand coarse or fine?

Medium-coarse. If you need more bite for heavy texture or gravel pack, step up to #16. If you need a true medium sand for general stucco and grout, step down to #30. For fine finish coats or tight filtration, go to #60. For blasting, pool plaster, and textured stucco, #20 silver sand is the size most crews spec.
