Excel-Coat Reinforcing Fabric is a composite Fiber Glass Filament Reinforcing Mat. It is a combination of chopped glass filament bundled with polyester binder. It is used to reinforce Excel-Coat acrylic deck coatings and also ExcelCoat epoxy resin systems in those areas in need of increased impact resistance. While the chemical and thermal properties of Excel-Coat Reinforcing Fabric are essentially those of glass, the product’s hydraulic overlapping of fibers endows it with an extraordinary combination of unique physical and performance properties when encapsulated in Excel-Coat acrylic membranes or epoxy coatings

In acrylic deck coating and epoxy laminating applications, Excel-Coat Reinforcing Fabric is the preferred reinforcement because the non-woven interstitial openings allows the impregnating acrylic membrane or epoxy resin a better chance to key through the fabric to form the important bond. When properly impregnated with the Excellent Coatings Acrylic or Epoxy Membranes there is formed a nonhydroscopic, lightweight, high tear strength, multi-directional fabric reinforced coating system which has dramatically improved resistance to abrasion and impact.

The distinctive characteristics of Excel-Coat Reinforcing Fabric when properly encapsulated with Excel-Coat #1 Acrylic Membrane are higher tensile strength combined with increased tear strength and increased dimensional stability (i.e. better distribution of localized stress).

Pedestrian Traffic Membrane System

The Excel-Coat Fire System is specifically designed to provide a waterproof wearing surface for exterior and interior pedestrian traffic areas where waterproofing and a "Class A", one hour fire rating are essential. It is ideal for walking decks, balconies and stairways. The Excel-Coat Fire System provides durable protection with ultraviolet light stability and allows for easy maintenance. Applications

  • Excel-Coat Reinforcing Fabric is a universal fabric that can be used with Excel-Coat #1 Acrylic Membrane as well as the Excellent Coatings manufactured epoxy resin systems. Excel-Coat Reinforcing Fabric is an excellent repair and reinforcement fabric for both new and remedial construction in decking, roofing, and waterproofing applications. Other applications include: foundations, slabs, tunnels, subways, pipeline joint wrap, parapet wall treatment, plaza decks, roofing insulation, and vertical waterproofing repair operations. Excel-Coat #1 Acrylic Membrane was developed to accommodate embedding with Excel-Coat Reinforcing Fabric.

    Limitations

    • Not for areas intended for vehicular traffic.
    • Do not apply in constantly submerged conditions such as reflecting ponds or tank linings.
    • Do not apply directly to plywood. For plywood applications refer to the Excel-Coat Fire System Application Guide.
    • On-grade applications require appropriate surface preparation and prime coat.
